In a not entirely unexpected development, Hull FC today confirmed that they had parted way with head coach, Tony Smith, as well as his assistant, Stanley Gene. Assistant coach Scott Grix has taking charge of the team on a caretaker basis.

After making their worst start to a season in 25 years, Tony Smith’s departure has seemed somewhat inevitable in the last few weeks, following several torrid results and worsening fan feeling, Smith leaves his second Hull team in three years, after previously coaching Hull KR from 2019 to 2022.

Hull FC chief executive Adam Pearson had this to say on the clubs official website: “On behalf of everyone associated with Hull FC, I would like to thank Tony and Stan for their contribution to the club during their time with the first team. They have worked tirelessly and it is disappointing to have had to come to this decision, but it is one I feel is right at this time. I wish them both well for the future. There will be further restructuring of the club in the coming days and we will update further in due course.”

With talk of restructuring once again at the Black and Whites, many fans will be left to ponder what else could possibly change following the sacking of three coaches in the span of five years. Who will be the next person in the hot seat to once again try and institute change on the West side of Hull? Only time will tell.
