Understandably, there wasn’t as many cases up in front of the disciplinary panel this week, what with it being Challenge Cup semi-final weekend and all. There were some cases though, so let’s look at them now.
Wigan Warriors may be heading to Wembley following their dominant win over Hull KR last week, but it wasn’t all positive news coming out of the weekend, as three of their players found themselves up on charges before the match review panel, with two being slapped with bans.
The two players in question were Sam Walters and Kaide Ellis, who both received 1 match penalty notices. The former for Grade B Head Contact and the latter for Grade B late contact on the passer. As a result, they will both miss the Warriors trip to Salford this Sunday. Luke Thomson, however, will be free for the game against the Red Devils, after he was hit with just a £250 fine for a Grade B Dangerous contact charge.
The only other charges from last weekend came in the Championship. Doncaster’s Suaia Matagi received a 1 match penalty notice for a Grade B Dangerous Contact offence. Sheffield Eagles number 26 Alex Foster was slapped with a two game ban for a Grade C Dangerous contact charge, and finally, York Knights’ Ata Hingano is facing 3-5 games on the sideline following the decision to charge him with Grade E head contact. The final decision on his punishment is yet to be published.
A final charge that is also yet to be decided is Hull FC’s Herman Ese’ese, who will face the tribunal on a Grade F Unacceptable Language charge. These decisions are due to be announced next week.
