The return of Super League after a week off for the Challenge Cup brought with it a lot of business for the match review panel, with one suspension in particular sure to attract attention.

Warrington’s star half-back George Williams will be watching this weekend’s cup final dress rehearsal from the stands after he picked up a 1 match penalty notice for a Grade B Dangerous Contact charge. Wolves fans are sure to be relieved that their star man will be missing this weekend instead of next.

In terms of bans, there were two more across the rugby league world. Firstly, Adam Lawton of League One side Oldham RLFC received a 3 match penalty notice for a Grade D Head Contact charge picked up from their game last weekend against Keighley Cougars.

Secondly, in the Women’s Super League, Brogan Mellor-Churm of Featherstone Rovers got a 1 match penalty notice for a Grade C dangerous contact charge stemming from the Rovers match against Barrow Raiders.

That was it for bans, but there were a number of fines handed out also from this past weekend. In the Super League, there were five fines dished out in total, all for £250. The players were as follows:

Luis Roberts (Leeds Rhinos) – Grade B Dangerous Contact

George Griffin (Castleford Tigers) – Grade B Dangerous Contact

Brad Dwyer (Leigh Leopards) – Grade B Intentional Trip

Frankie Halton (Leigh Leopards) – Grade B Dangerous Contact

Will Lovell (London Broncos) – Grade B Dangerous Contact

Elsewhere, there were fines for Katie Evans of Featherstone Rovers in the Women’s Super League (£50, Grade B Head Contact), Jordan Gibson of Swinton Lions in the Championship (£125, Grade B Head Contact), and Jake Spedding, also of the Swinton Lions (£125, Grade B Head Contact).

Finally, the Grade F charge of Unacceptable Language against Herman Ese’ese of Hull FC was withdrawn and a full apology was offered by the RFL to Ese’ese following new evidence.

Edit: it was brought to my attention that I had missed a case. Jordan Gibson of the Swinton Lions has been referred to the tribunal for a Grade E Head Contact charge.
