There’s not much to report that’s new this week, just some updates on previous cases from the past few weeks. Most notably, Arthur Romano has been successful in his appeal against an additional one-match ban, originally handed down for a frivolous challenge against his original one-match ban. As a result, the suspension was reverted back to the original ruling, and his one-match suspension was served in this past weekend’s international test, meaning he will be free to play this weekend.
Fellow Dragon Michael McIllorum wasn’t as lucky as his teammate though, as his appeal against a Grade B Dangerous Contact charge was rejected.
Elsewhere, Bradford Bulls’ Fenton Rodgers has been found not guilty of a Grade F Verbal Abuse charge, and Hunslet’s Matty Fletcher’s appeal against the grade of his suspension for punching was unsuccessful. He will therefore serve a two-match suspension and receive a £40 fine.
As soon as I thought this week’s disciplinary update would be easy work, the MRP decide to release a shed load more decisions onto their website on Thursday night. Apologies to those who saw this post on Friday afternoon before it was finished. I had scheduled it for Friday afternoon in the naïve hope that there would be no more developments. Lesson learned, don’t underestimate the MRP.
Featherstone Rovers saw three of their players charged this past week, with one being referred to the tribunal for further hearings, that man being Dec Patton, who has been charged with Grade F Striking. Any further details will be included in next week’s update. Fev will also be missing Danny Addy and Gadwin Springer, who have both been handed a one-match penalty notice for Grade C Dangerous Contact.
Elsewhere in the Championship, there have been four further bans handed out. Firstly, there’s Pauli Pauli of Doncaster, who has received a one-match ban for a Grade B Dangerous Contact charge (on the higher end of the scale). Franklin Pele of the Bradford Bulls, and Nick Gregson of the Widnes Vikings also received one match bans for the same charge as Pauli. The last ban in the Championship went to Luke Bain of Wakefield Trinity, who received a one match ban for a Grade C Dangerous Contact charge.
Oldham RLFC’s Danny Craven will be joining Dec Patton in a tribunal hearing after he was cited for a Grade E Foul & Abusive Language Towards the Match Official charge, which could see him facing a lengthy spell on the side lines.
The only other two bans in League One for this past week both came from the Newcastle Thunder, as Tyler Hepple & Evan Lawther were both slapped with a one-match penalty notice for a Grade C Dangerous Contact charge.
Finally, there was also a ban dished out to Lewis Jagger from the Huddersfield Giants scholarship team. He was handed a two-match ban for a Grade D Head Contact charge. The MRP apparently had very little Sympathy For The Devil when handing down this ban, but it’s not all Doom & Gloom for the young lad, I’m sure he’ll be back on the pitch soon, Wild Horses couldn’t drag him away, I’m sure.
The following players were issued with fines:
Ben Kavanagh (Halifax Panthers) – Grade B Dangerous Contact – £125 Fine
Ryan Johnson (Midlands Hurricanes) – Grade B Dangerous Contact – £40 Fine
