It’s been another good week for me (this is Nathan, by the way, back after a week off, thanks to Ian for filling in), I only picked one incorrect winner and got three results within the ten point margin required for the bonus points. I’m not going to get complacent, though, Ian might be nearly thirty points behind me, but it only takes a few weeks of poor predictions for him to catch up, and we can’t be having that.

I think it’s fair to say that all four sides who had a semi-final last weekend looked worse off for it this weekend. Only current league leaders Hull KR managed to pick up a win this weekend out of the four semi-finalists, and despite a 34-0 final scoreline, it was far from a sure thing for most of the match, and Huddersfield will surely feel like the final score flattered the Robins.

Hull KR’s semi-final opponents Catalans Dragons opened the weekend of Round Eleven away at St Helens, and produced arguably the worst performance of the weekend as they were crushed 40-0 by a not-entirely-convincing St Helens side. Despite the fact that St Helens have hardly been setting the world alight all season, they still played a fatigued looking Dragons side off the park at the Totally Wicked Stadium, much to the relief of their under-pressure coach, Paul Wellens.

Friday night saw two games played; one a thrilling encounter which was only settled in the final minutes, and the other a points-scoring bonanza, with a total of sixty-four points scored between both teams. The first was Leeds vs Hull FC, which went right down to the wire with Leeds, having fought back from 16-4 down, nabbed the winner in the final minute through a Ryan Hall try. Friday’s other game saw Wigan & Leigh make up for their 0-1 scoreline on the opening weekend by producing a 36-28 score in favour of the Warriors.

Saturday’s only game saw the aforementioned Hull KR vs Huddersfield clash, which was hardly a classic display from either team’s perspective. Hull KR showed their admirable defensive mettle, however, in producing another shut-out, despite numerous Huddersfield opportunities on the Rovers line, and they turn on the style in the final twenty minutes to claim a 34-0 win.

Sunday also saw two games, one of which produced the shock of the weekend, as Challenge Cup finalists Warrington Wolves were routed by Wakefield Trinity at the DIY Kitchens Stadium. A virtuoso performance from Mason Lino saw the Trin impose their will on the Wolves, blowing them away by a score of 40-10, a result few saw coming at the start of the weekend.

To round off the weekend, perennial 2025 strugglers Salford Red Devils travelled to Castleford to take on the Tigers at the Mend-a-Hose Jungle. Few gave the Red Devils a chance, and indeed, they went down once again by a large margin, this time 48-16, as fellow strugglers Cas took their opportunities to pile further misery on Salford. It’s getting increasingly difficult to see light at the end of Salford’s tunnel, with Wakefield as their next visit, it’s hard to foresee another victory any time soon.
