It was truly a week to forget for Ian in round fifteen, with him only calling two correct winners all weekend. I, on the other hand, have been feeling exceptionally smug ever since my outside tip of Wakefield to beat Wigan came off on Friday night. Although that smugness is dimmed by the fact that Wakefield travel to Craven Park this week to face my beloved Robins.

Although it was somewhat of a weekend for upsets, there wasn’t one forthcoming for the Castleford Tigers, who hosted the table-topping Hull KR at the Mend-a-Hose Jungle last Thursday night. What many considered a stumbling block for the Robins was deftly avoided as they brushed the Tigers aside by a scoreline of 48-0. Jack Broadbent put on another man of the match performances as the league leaders showed why they belong at the top.

Second-placed Wigan Warriors, however, could not get over their stumbling block this week, as they followed up a narrow last minute victory against strugglers Huddersfield with a loss away at play-off contenders Wakefield Trinity. Although the game finished with a close scoreline of 16-10, Wigan were never in the lead throughout the game, and seem to be experiencing somewhat of a mid-season wobble.

Almost as unexpected was St Helens victory over third-placed Leeds Rhinos on Friday night. The Saints, who had been struggling for form over the past few weeks, produced a professional display to add to the list of upsets this weekend, and probably bought their under-fire coach Paul Wellens a few more weeks in the job in the process.

Saturday brought yet more woe for the Warrington Wolves as well, as they were defeated by the eleventh-placed Huddersfield Giants at the Halliwell Jones Stadium by a score of 24-16. The Wolves have seen their confidence plummet in the weeks following their Wembley defeat, and now sit in eighth, five points outside the play-off positions.

Leigh continued their winning run on Saturday too, with a 26-12 victory over a much more spirited Catalans Dragons side in the South of France. The game was closer than many anticipated, but the Leythers saw out the victory in the end following late game tries from Joe Ofahengaue and David Armstrong.

Despite an early scare, Hull FC managed to see off the Salford Red Devils to round off round fifteen. Although Hull were always the team in the ascendancy, Salford put up a good fight in the first half, but eventually ran out of steam. The game finished 38-6 to Hull, as Salford continue their wait for a second league victory in 2025.
