Shaun Wane has today announced his train-on squad for the 2025 Ashes Series. Consisting of just players from Super League clubs, with Southern Hemisphere-based players set to join following the conclusion of the season, thirty-two players in total have been invited to a squad training session due to take place tomorrow.
The squad contains six players who are as-yet uncapped for England, namely: James Batchelor (Hull KR), Morgan Gannon (Leeds Rhinos), Harry Robertson (St Helens), George Delaney (St Helens), Owen Trout (leigh Leopards, and James McDonnell (Leeds Rhinos), who has also changed allegiance from Ireland.
Despite these new inclusions there are some notable omissions too. Most notable of all being current Man of Steel rankings leader Jake Connor (Leeds Rhinos), who many would have considered to be a shoo-in for the squad on this season’s form. League leaders Hull KR can also feel like some more of their players should have been included, with the likes of Joe Burgess, Tom Davies, Jack Broadbent, and Dean Hadley missing out. To add implied insult to injury for those players who missed out, three players who are out injured for the long-term have been included with Matty Ashton and Danny Walker of the Warrington Wolves, and Jack Welsby of St Helens making the cut.
