It was a mixed week all-round in round twenty-three. Neither Hull team managed a victory, so neither me or Ian were particular happy to begin with, and some of our prediction outcomes did nothing to cheer us up (although, Ian had a worse weekend, I should point out).
The round started off with a top-of-the table clash at Headingley as the Leeds Rhinos entertained current table-toppers Hull KR. The Robins were on a high following their defeat of Wigan Warriors last week. It turned out that following that with a trip to the Rhinos was a step too far, as they fell to a 28-6 defeat in West Yorkshire.
Both of Friday nights games took place on the Lancastrian side of the pennines, as the Leigh Leopards hosted the Salford Red Devils, and St Helens entertained Hull FC. It was a happy Friday for the home teams, as it turned out, as Leigh beat a threadbare Red Devils side 38-6, and the Saints briefly moved up into second by defeating Hull FC 16-10.
Saturday saw the Castleford Tigers travelled to the South of France to take on the Catalans Dragons in a battle between two sides struggling at the wrong end of the table. It was Les Dracs who came away with the two points, beating the toothless Tigers 38-4.
The weekend came to a close with another two-game day, with Huddersfield Giants hosting the Warrington Wolves, and Wigan Warriors took on Wakefield Trinity. In the shock of the weekend, the Giants managed to tame the Wolves, beating the Wire 23-10, and dealing a severe blow to their already-slim playoff hopes. Meanwhile, Wigan bounced back from their loss to Hull KR last week by beating Wakefield 44-2 to move back into second place.
