All of the speculation surrounding Paul Rowley’s future has been put to bed today, after it was announced today that he will take up the position of head coach of St Helens, joining the Merseyside club on a three-year contract.

The news was broken by several news outlets earlier today, but confirmed by the Salford Red Devils website after it published a statement announcing their head coaches departure.

Rowley, whose coaching CV includes the likes of Leigh and Toronto Wolfpack, enjoyed a fifteen-year playing career before becoming a coach, playing for Leigh, Halifax, and Huddersfield. He also earned four representative caps for England to his name.

In a statement to the Salford clubs website, Rowley made the following statement to fans: “I want to thank all players, performance staff, back office and management that I have had the pleasure to work alongside for the togetherness and belonging that I’ve felt from the point I arrived. I am grateful and privileged for the opportunity I was given by Paul King to lead this great club as head coach and leave with wonderful memories, great experiences and friendships that I will cherish for a lifetime.”

To the supporters, you made Salford home, became my friends and welcomed me as one of your own, you gave me your heart and I gave you mine. Thank you for everything.”

Rowley was the head coach for Salford for four seasons, joining for the 2022 Super League season. The club reached a play-off semi-final in his first season, and went on to finish as high as fourth in 2024, before financial issues brought the club to its knees during 2025, when the Red Devils finished last.
