Watch out, Ian, I’m closing that gap! If I were you, I’d be sending a strongly worded letter to Matty Peet for costing you a good start on Thursday night! Yes, after the final Challenge Cup week break, there is now just a four-point gap between your intrepid predictors, but there is still a lot of rugby left to be played between now and September!

The weekend got off to a strange start, as Hull KR welcomed a much-changed Wigan Warriors team to Sewell Group Craven Park. Matty Peet had named a heavily-rotated (and youthful) squad in the days leading up to the clash, and his team selection on the day was even more noteworthy, as ten players were handed their first-team debuts for the Warriors, with only Patrick Mago and Sam Eseh Jr making the team from their usual seventeen. The result was much as you’d expect, as Rovers overpowered their much more youthful opposition, with Mikey Lewis grabbing himself an eighteen-minute hat-trick along the way. The game finished 62-4 to the Robins.

Friday night saw two more mismatched games and blow-away results, as the Leeds Rhinos welcomed the struggling Huddersfield Giants to AMT Headingley, and the Leigh Leopards entertained an injury-hampered Hull FC. It was a first game to forget for Jim Lenihan, the Giants’ new head coach, as his team was thoroughly dismantled 52-0 by the Rhinos, returning Brad Arthur’s men to the top of the Super League. Meanwhile, a beleaguered Hull FC side were overwhelmed 42-6 by Leigh Leopards, a result which would have been much worse if anyone in leopard print had bothered to bring their kicking boots.

Saturday saw a trifecta of games, with Castleford facing St Helens at the OneBore Stadium, Toulouse welcoming Wakefield to the Stade Ernest-Wallon, and York entertaining the Catalans Dragons at the LNER Stadium. In the shock of the round, Castleford totally outplayed the high-flying St Helens, running out 30-10 winners in West Yorkshire, with Jason Qareqaure bagging himself a hat-trick.

Castleford’s nearest and dearest also scored a victory on Saturday, albeit not as comfortable a one, as Wakefield narrowly withstood a late Toulouse surge, holding on to a slender 22-18 win in the South of France. Elsewhere, Toulouse’s French rivals, the Catalans Dragons, claimed a 36-22 victory over the York Knights. It was a much-needed return to the winner’s table for the Dragons, who were entering the game against the Knights in the midst of a three-game losing run.

The Warrington Wolves and the Bradford Bulls brought the curtain down on round twelve of the 2026 Betfred Super League season. The Bulls were hoping to build some momentum following their triumph against Hull FC the week prior. It was not to be for Kurt Haggerty’s men, however, as the Wolves emerged 26-12 victors on the day.
